Mrs. Evelyn Nyvold Burnett, 91 , of Mayfield, died March 15, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Burnett was born and raised in Minnesota and after graduation from high school, she attended the University of Minnesota where she graduated with honors with a degree in lnternational Relations and Spanish. She then spent 3 years in Germany working for the State Department and also spent time traveling to other countries which was her passion. Evelyn was fluent in German, Spanish, and her parent's native language, Norwegian. It was during this time in Germany when she met her future husband, Dr. Clem Burnett.

After returning to the United States, Evelyn and Clem were soon married and lived in Minnesota, then in Boston, Massachusetts, before finally settling in Mayfield, Ky. Evelyn was a devoted wife and mother and while raising 3 children in Mayfield, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and active with the Brownies and Girl Scouts, band parents, and Board of Directors of the Senior Citizens Center. She worked at instilling her passion for education, adventure, and travel in her children and later with her grandchildren. She was always known for her insatiable quest for knowledge by asking many questions stating that if you don't ask questions, how are you ever going to learn anything.

Evelyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mayfield where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and was active with the Ladies Circle. Mrs. Bumett is survived by her sons, Dr. Eric A. Bumett (Jane) of Lexington, Ky., Brian T. Burnett,(Neal Ann) of Mayfield, Ky., a step-son, Brad F. Burnett (Jean) of Richmond, Va., and a daughter, Dr. Ellen M. Burnett of Mayfield, Ky., nine grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Clem F. Burnett, her parents, Herman and Olga Nyvold, and two brothers, Donald and Robert.

A private graveside service for Mrs. Burnett will be held at a later date at Highland Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

The family requests that expressions of love for Evelyn be made to either the First Presbyterian Church of Mayfield or New Pathways for Children, PO Box 10,. Melber, Ky. 42069.
