Amos E. Smith, 92, of Batavia, IL, passed away peacefully on April 13th, 2017, surround by his loving family at Journey Care Hospice in Barrington, Illinois. He was born on May 19, 1924, in Houma, La, the son of Amos and Mary Smith. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Dunn on September 5, 1947, in New Orleans, LA. Amos served in WWII as part of the US Army from November 1942 until December 1945 and was a member of the Batavia V.F.W post 1197. Amos retired from Burgess Norton in Geneva, IL, after 30 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed playing bingo at the VFW in Batavia, watching his beloved Chicago Cubs win the world series, and also enjoying a good cigar. He also enjoyed taking pictures of his love ones and spending time with his family and friends. He particularly enjoyed his yearly birthday celebrations. Amos is survived by his four daughters, Regina Shepard (North Aurora, IL), Linda Lee (Batavia, IL), Cynthia Smith (Batavia, IL), and Mary Smith (Aurora, IL), and one son, Daquan Smith (Batavia, IL), brother David (Minnie) Smith, and sister Marion Boyd, two son-in-laws [sic, recte sons-in-law], Frank Butler and Rev. Marcus Lee, and one daughter-in-law, Pamela Smith, 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Amos is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth, his daughter Mary Butler, son Amos Jr., three infant children, and a special son-in-law, Lloyd Shepard, and several brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Friday, April 21, 2017, at Moss Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. Batavia, Illinois. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday April 22, 2017, at Logan Street Baptist Church, 908 N. River St., Batavia, Illinois. Amos will lay [sic, recte lie] in state at the church from 10am until 11am. Interment will be at River Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the service the repass [sic, recte repast] will be at Logan St Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his name to: Journey Care palliative/hospice at 405 N Lake Zurich Rd, Barrington, IL 60010.
