B. A. Philpott was married first to Margaret Scruggs, 2 May 1837 in Madison County, Alabama. She was born 1821 in Morgan County, Alabama, and died 21 April 1874 in Fairfield, Texas. He was married second to Miss Sallie Bishop,April 27, 1875 in Corsicana, Texas.
He lived in Freestone county for more than forty years, and represented the county for two terms in the Texas legislature from 1878 to 1882.

Mexia, Limestone Co., Tex., Nov. 18 – Col. B. A. Philpott, one of the most prominent men in this section of the state, died suddenly yesterday at his home at Dew, Freestone county, aged 81 years. He had lived in Freestone county for more than forty years, and represented the county for two terms in the legislature from 1878 to 1882.
