Excerpts from Post Register (Idaho Falls, ID) | 16 May 2002
Vivian Jean Ellwein, 58, died unexpectedly May 11, 2002. She was born April 17, 1944, in Garrison, N.D., the seventh of eight children born to Alex and Anna Bovkoon. She attended school in North Dakota at Turtle Lake. On Feb. 24, 1962, she married Melvin John Ellwein in Ryder, N.D., and they moved to Sacramento, Calif. She lived in the Sacramento Valley for 12 years before relocating to Idaho, settling in the Lost River Valley in February 1977. She worked as the Custer County Clerk with auto licenses and the court for more than a decade. She was the first woman elected to the Lost River Irrigation District water board.

Vivian was very passionate about all of her family, including her grandchildren, Nicole and Johnathan, and she loved helping others; she will be missed but not forgotten by all that knew and loved her. Survivors include her husband, Melvin Ellwein of Mackay; daughters, Valerie and Tracy; and two grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life, open to family and friends, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Mackay Community Church. Pastors Josh Ratzlaff and Tip Harwood will officiate. An opportunity to share will be offered following Vivian's Life Sketch. A college scholarship fund has been established in her name in support of the District 1 High School Rodeo Program.
