HURST -- Otis Garland Carter, 93, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018. FUNERAL: 11:30 a.m. Friday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet. Otis was born on April 12, 1924 in Fort Worth. He was the second of five children born to J.B. Carter Sr., and Sophia Carter. He grew up on the North Side of Fort Worth and graduated from North Side High School in 1941. Otis served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army 240th Engineers in New Guinea and the Philippines from 1943 to 1946. Following the war, he met his future wife, Wilda Watson. After dating for a few years, they were married on March 15, 1951. He began a career in the furniture business and managed furniture stores in North and South Fort Worth until his retirement in 1990. Otis enjoyed landscaping and during his retirement years he took great pride in caring for the yards of family and friends. The Carters joined Worth Baptist Church in 1961 and he spent many years as an usher and unofficial greeter. He was also a lifelong Mason and a member of Tarrant Lodge 942. He dearly loved his family, his many friends and his beloved home in Bedford where he and Wilda lived since 1996. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. Otis was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, J.B. Carter Jr. and Bill Carter; and sister, Vivian Adams. SURVIVORS: His wife of 67 years, Wilda Carter; daughter, Karen Brookman (Bill); son, Kevin Carter Sr. (Donna); grandson, Kevin Carter Jr. (Kendra); three great-grandchildren, Kesley, Kyleigh and Kenzington Carter; sister, Betty Lotton; and several nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
