Michael Johnson of Newfolden MN, age, 75 died peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN with his loving family at his side.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 2, 21015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating.
Burial will follow at Rindal Cemetery rural Viking MN. Visitation will be held from 5pm until 8pm with a 7pm prayer service on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN
Visitation will also be held for 9:30 until 10:30 am on Friday at Zion Lutheran Church.
He was baptized on August 15, 1940 at Rindal Lutheran Church by Pastor Tungseth and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN.
Mike graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls with the class of 1958 and went on to Dunwoody Institute in the Twin Cities.
On August 12, 1961, Mike married Sharon (Wendel) Hoglo and to this union three children were born, Natalie, Jennifer and Steven.
On March 26, 1976 Mike was united in marriage to Linda R. Bruggeman at Sisseton, SD and to this union a son, Wayne was born. The couple made their home on the Thompson Family Farm in New Solum Township of Marshall County, MN
In his younger years, Mike worked as a heavy equipment operator and in 1980 started working as a Supervisor at the Marshall County Highway Department.
He retired in April of 2006 from the highway department.
Throughout the years, Mike enjoyed farming the Thompson Family Farm.
Hobbies include deer hunting, restoring antique tractors, running threshing machines at demonstrations, watching John Wayne movies, reading about WWII and other books playing solitaire and cribbage, doing a little gardening and also did some carpentry projects.
Mike was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and became a charter member of the Rindal Lutheran Church in 2011 when it was re-established.
He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie 2368 in Thief River Falls since 1973, Minnesota Steam Engines Association and a life-time member of the Wester Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion at Rollag, MN.
Mike served as Chairman of the New Solum Township Board for 35 years, was a member of the Marshall County Historical Society, Rindal Cemetery Association Rindal Church Council and the Rosebank Historical Association.
