Oka "Okie" Carlson, 92, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006.

A resident of Hudson Ohio, Oka was born Sept. 26, 1913, in Orebro, Sweden, of parents Gottfried and Esther Carlson. A 37-year employee of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., he retired as plant manager of the Akron Chemical Plant in 1978.

Preceded in death by his wife, H. Patricia (Colligan), and son, Jon D., he is survived by his children: sons, Andrew of Boston, Mass., Jeffrey (Melissa) of Pickerington Ohio, Gregory (Patricia) of Hudson, Steven (Jeannette) of Kent, and Michael of Cleveland, and by daughters, Sharon (Curt) Ayres of Georgetown, Del., Susan (Col. James) Brenner of Kent, Kathleen (F. Thomas) Barnhart of Montgomery, Texas, and Lynn (Larry) Morrow of Edenton, N.C. Okie will be greatly missed by his daughter-in-law, Barbara (Jon); 12 grandchilden; by his many nieces and nephews; and his brother, Walter of Aberdeen, S.D.

Okie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hudson. He was an avid gardener and naturalist, woodworker, hiker, and traveled extensively throughout the U.S.

Calling hours at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent, Ohio, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 7. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church in Hudson, Ohio, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April, 8, 2006. Interment to immediately follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hudson.
