Roy attended grade school at St. Catherine's with his older sister, Helen Jean Donley (deceased).
He starred as the point guard on the 1949 State Championship basketball team at St. Justin High School in Mt. Washington with friend, teammate and NFL Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas.
A 1953 graduate of St. Vincent College, Roy lettered in both baseball and basketball for the Bearcats and was recognized by his beloved alma mater for outstanding professional achievements and distinguished civic endeavors, first in 1982 as a "Letterman of Distinction" and again as the "1998 Alumnus of Distinction."
Roy served his country as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and led an engineering command at the El Toro Marine Air Station in Laguna Beach, California for several years.
1958 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Roy was a partner at Brandt, McManius, Brandt & Malone from 1959 through 1976, while also serving as Solicitor of Peters Township in Washington County from 1968 through 1974.
1976, Roy co-founded Fried, Kane & Walters where he practiced until he retired in 2000, having argued 7 cases before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and being well recognized for developing influential appellate court precedent following the reformatory changes introduced by the 1974 amendments to Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation Act.
Roy married the love of his life, Kathleen Marie Dixon, at St. Raphael's Church in Morningside on May 9, 1959 and they remained happily and faithfully together for over 58 years.
Roy is survived by four children and nine grandchildren.
Roy was equally devoted to his family and his Catholic faith, having served his long-time Parish, St. Louise de Marillac, as its first President of the Parish Council, as well as lector, little league baseball coach and volunteer. Having been selected to multiple terms on the Board of Directors for Catholic Cemeteries, Roy attended Lenten retreats for decades at St. Paul of the Cross Monastery.
Perhaps best remembered for his generous ways, kindness, strong faith, hopeful spirit, love of Pittsburgh and for always making St. Patrick's Day special for his family, friends and colleagues, he most enjoyed spending time with his family and celebrating life to the fullest, under any circumstance. While he'll be dearly missed, those who knew him best are grateful for all the cheerful memories created along his joyous journey here on earth.
