OBITUARY.

Mrs. Flora J. Dowling was born Sept. 5, 1833, at Canaan, Conn., and died at her home in Nichols Tuesday morning, May 16, at 10 o'clock, at the, age of 77 years, 8 months and 11 days, after 11 weeks' illness of complications of diseases, and old age, and death was not unexpected. She was married to Mr. Nodine who was killed in 1862 in the war. To this union were born three children who survive their mother, Mrs. Fannie Hillyer and Ben Nodine, of Nichols, and George Nodine of McIntyre, Iowa, who has been quite ill for several weeks and was unable to attend the funeral.
On March 5, 1864, she was united in marriage to Henry Dowling in Connecticut and in 1876 they came to Nichols, Iowa, where she spent the rest of her life. To this union were born three children, one, Mrs. Gertie Moots, preceding her in death, the two surviving being Mrs. Chet Watkins, of Nichols, and Mrs. Sadie Beatty, of Lone Tree, who has been at her mother's bedside for the past eleven weeks and always ready to do all that loving hands could do to make the last days of her mother's life pleasant and restful.
Besides her husband and five children she is survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Mary Ann Cotrell, of Nichols, and Mrs. Lura Babcock and Sheldon Dean, of Connecticut.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. R. E. Richards, the body was laid to rest in the Nichols cemetery.
