Ms. Steele was born June 11, 1936, in Tampa, FL to James Henry and Frances (Dwyer) Steele.


Her family relocated to Bradenton, FL; where she was raised and spent much of her life. She attended Manatee High School in Bradenton, FL. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, and in 1969 she received her Master's of Education from the University of North Carolina. She was an Educator and Administrator in the Manatee County School system.


Ms. Steele was a proud member of the English Chapel United Methodist Church, located in the Pisgah Forest. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge, bocce ball, and spending time with her friends in the Connestee Falls community. She loved music, and was a supporter of the Brevard Music Center. She often talked about her time as a child attending Camp Ilahee, where she fell in love with North Carolina.


She was preceded in death by her father, James H. Steele, Jr. and her mother Frances Dwyer; her brothers, James H. Steele, III and George D. Steele.
