John was a skilled mechanic, stone mason, transcontinental hauler, and did construction work. At the time of his death he was a rigger worker. In Pennsylvania, John worked for a number of years as a stonemason, carpenter, and engaged in farming. During World War II he served with the US Army in France. John was hurt fatally in an industrial accident which caused his death within a few days, on his sixtieth birthday.
