She was born on March 30, 1930, in Allerton, the daughter of James Lester and Beulah Carner Smith and sister of Betty Niksich and Eugene Smith, all of whom preceded her in death.
Waneta and her husband, Philip A. Roller, were married in Paris on July 3, 1949. Philip preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 2017. Waneta and Philip were constant companions for their entire marriage.
Waneta lived in Hume her entire adult life and was an active member of Hume Christian Church. She served the village of Hume as water clerk for many years. Waneta also was a homemaker and socially active member of the community. She particularly enjoyed puzzles and making her family's favorite dishes.
Waneta raised two children with Philip, Cindy (Ray) Smith of Hume and Randy (Sherri) Roller of Seymour, Ind. She delighted in spending time with her children and their spouses. In later life, they were a great source of happiness for her.
Waneta is also survived by three loving grandchildren, Anita Pierce (Willem) Bakker of Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, Dustin (Kallie) Roller of Crothersville, Ind., and Danielle (Andrew) Kirk of Columbus, Ind.; and one great-grandchild, Allen Paul Roller of Crothersville. Waneta took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild.
There will be a private family service at Joines Funeral Home, 401 W. Gillogly St., Newman, at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018. Public graveside services and interment will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at Young America Cemetery, Hume. Waneta's nephew, Craig Roller, will officiate.
Waneta's children and their spouses wish to thank the kind and compassionate staff at The Oaks Manor for their care and support in her last months. They also appreciate the comfort provided by Lincolnland Hospice.
Memorials may be made to Hume Christian Church, Lincolnland Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice.
