On October 11, 1957 in Plymouth, IN, Nelson was united in marriage to Sondra V. Rice Annis. She preceded Nelson in death on May 3, 1987.
Nelson is survived by three daughters, Peggy Shively and Vickie Barber both of North Liberty, and Sally (Bob Betz) Richard of Walkerton; his son, Nelson (Laurie Ellis) Annis of Lakeville; grandchildren, Cassandra (Adam) Freitag, Nicole Annis, Shannon Williams, Danelle Saddawi, Charles (Trudy) Brown, Timothy Brown, Brad Brown, Tiffany Jones, Tracy Jones, Sondra Annis, Amanda Shively, Chad (Toni) Richard, and Samantha (Mike) Richard; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. One brother, Louis A. Annis preceded him in death.
Nelson served in the United States Marines from 1953-1956. He loved spending time with family. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and guitar; and he loved dogs and cats. Nelson had a unique sense of humor and was a jokester.
Funeral Services for Nelson will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 3-7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
