Lieutenant-Colonel George Daniel Chamier M.G.
George was born on the 24th September 1860 in Kingale in India, son of Stephen Henry Edward Chamier and his wife Doris Louisa.
He served in the Royal Horse Artillery, Royal Field Artillery, and Royal Garrison Artillery. In the Boer War, 1899-1902, he commanded the artillery during the defence of Kimberley (and was mentioned in despatches). He was Commandant and special commissioner in the Bloemhof District in 1902 and was awarded the South African War medal with three clasps, and the King’s medal with two clasps. M.G. 1900. He was later commanding the Royal Artillery in South China.
On the 24th February 1903 he married Amy St Ledger Bertram (widow of the Hon. James Buchanan). They had two daughters Yvonne Madeleine Chamier born on the 26th June 1904 in Fareham and Joan DesChamps Chamier born on the 6th March 1907 in Lewisham.
After the death of his father George moved to Brook House, Camberley. His interests were hunting, cricket and golf.
He died on the 3rd May and was buried at St Peter’s on the 6th May 1920 aged 59. His wife was born in Cape Colony, South Africa in 1865 – she died in Ipswich 2nd March 1945.
