Opal Herbert Knutson
Services for Opal Herbert Knutson were held at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Covina Hills, California on Thursday, July 18, 2002. She died at her home in West Covina, Calif. on July 13.
Opal was born in Commerce, Ga., on Feb. 24, 1929, to Bratton and Samantha Herbert. In 1935, she moved to Ashurst with her mother and father and six brothers and sisters. She went to school there and later joined her brothers in southern California to work in the wartime industries in Inglewood.
She remained in California for the rest of her life, marrying Lloyd Knutson and giving birth to one son, Steven (both deceased). Opal always considered Fort Thomas to be home and returned often. She purchased property in Fort Thomas on which several relatives lived over the years .She and her husband were chiropractors and she maintained a practice in West Covina, California long after her husband's death.
She is survived by two brothers, Dewey Herbert of West Covina, California and Ray Herbert of Pima.
She was laid to rest between her husband and her infant son. The family prayer was given by her nephew, Rodney Herbert of Tucson. Bishop Neil C. Wood provided the invocation and her niece, Becky Herbert Haggard, presented her life history. Dedication of the grave was offered by her nephew, Michael Herbert. The pallbearers were Michael Herbert, Rodney Herbert, Gregory Herbert, Wayne Ellis, Kevin Ellis, and Harold Herbert.
