Joyce H. Davidson, 88, of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Glenn J. Davidson.
Joyce is survived by daughters: Dayle Poncelet, of West Lawn; Donna (Larry) Hauver, of Frederick, Md.; Debra (Ted) Wierzbicki, of Oley; and Daren (Gary) Magno, of Durango, Colo.; grandchildren: Sara, Janice, Emily, Amelia, Alison, Garrison, Glenn and Stuart; great-grandchildren: Madison, Carly and Ellis; and her cat, Oliver.
She is also survived by her brother, Alan (Joan) Chirgwin, of Palm Coast, Fla.
Born in Kearny, N.J., on April 5, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Jeanne (Nicol) Hamilton, and was raised by the late Warren and Mary (Nicol) Chirgwin.
Joyce was a graduate of North Arlington High School, Arlington, N.J.
While she worked at various times during her life at the Bank of Pennsylvania and as the secretary of Bausman Memorial United Church of Christ, Joyce found the most joy from her years of philanthropic work and service in her community. She donated her time to Girl Scouts of the United States of America and the PTA, among other organizations, and proudly volunteered in numerous departments at the Reading Hospital for 38 years.
A sustaining member of the Friends of Reading Hospital, she was a committed supporter and organizer of many initiatives including the Garden Party, Holiday Happening, Tower Ball, Hospital Road Run and the Volunteer Tea. Joyce was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church.
An avid golfer, she also enjoyed reading, gardening, knitting and traveling with her beloved Glenn around the country and throughout Europe.
Joyce truly cherished her time with family and friends, sharing mutual admiration with all those fortunate enough to have crossed her path. She treasured the family's annual vacations in Avalon, N.J., and trips with Glenn to visit family in Colorado, and looked forward to having "lunch with the girls" every week. Affectionately known as "Gram", she kept up with those near and far by chatting and texting on her iPhone and was even active on Facebook, always way ahead of her time.
Joyce will be remembered most for her generous spirit, impeccable style and gracious nature. Her contagious zest for life will carry on forever.
A memorial service to celebrate Joyce's life will be held on Monday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Ave., West Lawn, Pa.
