Mary married Gabriel Turner, son of Smith Turner and Nancy Ragsdale, on 7 Nov 1847 in Boone County, Missouri. "Boone County, Missouri Marriages 1820-1848; as Contained in the Original Marriage Books A and B, page 345 .

In 1850, when her husband was in California, Mary was living in Simpson County, Kentucky, with her father, Samuel H. Haden, and stepmother, Frances Haden. She had no children at this time, which coincides with her eldest being born in 1856, as stated in her husband's will.

In 1860 Mary Turner was listed in the Gabriel Turner household in Boone Co., Missouri, Columbia Twp, page 840B, dwelling 1472 family 1424.

Mary was widowed in Oct 1864 when her husband Gabriel, died in Mexico, Audrain Co., Missouri, when during the Union occupation, his death was characterized locally as "he was shot in cold blood for no reason".
