James Solomon Wiseman, 88, of Covington, Tennessee, was born October 21, 1929 in New Madrid, Missouri to Ernest and Emily (Daniels) Wiseman.

Despite losing his fingers at ten years old in a sawmill accident, he never let it slow him down in his many careers. He began working as a teenager after leaving school in seventh grade to work as a riverboat hand. From there, he went on to work as a delivery boy, farmer, mechanic, and salesman. He managed multiple farm equipment businesses for several decades until his retirement at the age of 79. He also operated a farm with his wife and family that spanned over 900 acres. He never met a stranger in his professional or personal life. He was a salesman at heart and was passionate about selling John Deere tractors or bragging about his children’s and grandchildren’s achievements.

Embodying his native Missouri’s “Show Me” philosophy, nothing was impossible when it came to his goals or his family. A proud father, grandfather, Christian, Mason, and Shriner, his love for his family was only matched by his generosity to others, especially children. He was a blessing to so many even as his health declined while living at Covington Care where he showed compassion and humor to staff and residents alike.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, seven brothers, two sisters, his beloved wife, Margarette (Montgomery), and infant son (9 months), James “Jimmy” Solomon Wiseman, Jr. He is survived by one brother, Ed (Betty) Wiseman, and two sisters Frances Wright and Allie (Bill) Moor. He also leaves behind a legacy in his three daughters, Diane (Elbert) Baum, Carolyn Jones, Dale (Bobby) Armstrong; six grandchildren, LeAnn (Doug Gatewood) Baum, Connie (Mike) Carrillo, Angie (David) Franceschini, Teresa (Mickey) Elder, Jay (Michelle) Armstrong, and Jeremy Armstrong; and seven great-grandchildren, Andrew (Leslie) Baum, Daniel Franceschini, Hunter Elder, Joseph Franceschini, Bo Elder, Raylynn Margaret “Maggie” Elder and Evan Carrillo.
