Helen M. Farrington, 91, of Mechanicsville, formally of Olin, died Thursday, March 8, 2018, surround by her family at the Mechanicsville Specialty Care in Mechanicsville.

Visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 11, at Steward Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Memorials may be directed to Mechanicsville Ambulance and Fire or Care Initiatives Hospice in her memory.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 12, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville, Iowa.

Helen Marie Platner was born on August 16, 1926, on the family farm north of Mechanicsville, the daughter of Howard and Hazle (Miller) Platner. She graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1944. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1947. She married Glenn Farrington on August 21, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed together on the Farrington family farm for 50 years. Glenn preceded her in death on January 3, 1999. She was a devoted and caring farm wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed baking and gardening. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are two daughters, Elaine (Dean) Anderson of Tipton and Gloria (Frank) Dohmen of Mechanicsville; two sons, Gordon (Wanda) Farrington and Norman (Debra) Farrington, both of Mechanicsville; nine grandchildren, Michele Farrington, Mark (Stacy) Farrington, Eric (Autumn) Farrington, Erin (Chris) Rada, Katrina (Scott) Pearson, Seth (Melissa) Anderson, Ryan (Chrissy) Dohmen, Kyle, (Lynnsey) Dohmen, Jacob (Anna) Dohmen; 15 great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Haley, Johanna, Scarlett, Cameron, Brynn, Piper, Macy, William, Lauren, Grant, Charlotte, Lily, Emma and Ethan; and one sister-in-law, Genevieve Platner of Mechanicsville.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, two sisters, Edith Puffer and Mildred Ross and one brother, Herbert Platner.
