Notes: Benjamin Dobson moved with his parents to Butler County, Ohio, in 1805. He settled at Tazewell County, Illinois, in the fall of 1831. He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 28 December 1836 by Harvey Green. In 1844 he lived at Hancock County, Illinois. He resided in Wisconsin in 1846 and in Iowa in October 1850. In 1858 he settled at Mason's Grove, Crawford, Iowa. He affiliated with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He erected the first saw mill in Crawford County and helped found the village of Deloit.
He and his wife Keziah had eleven children.
