Eleanor Ruth Griffin, age 94, of Markesan, formerly of Princeton, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Ripon Medical Center.

She was born on January 9, 1924, in Montello, WI, a daughter of Edward and Elsie (Lange) Manthey. During the depression years, her family moved quite often as her father looked for work. Eleanor graduated from Princeton High School in 1942.

On March 10, 1945, Eleanor married Howard Griffin in Tyler, TX. While living in Texas, Eleanor was employed as a cleaning lady at a beauty salon.

She loved being outdoors and going fishing with her husband and dog, Tuffy. Eleanor along with her husband, Howard took pride in operating their small game farm. Throughout her life she enjoyed playing cards. While at Samuel's Grove, she had the opportunity to play cards and Bingo with the other residents. At family gatherings, she was known for her pies and her fantastic chocolate cake.

Eleanor is survived by her brother-in-law, Milton Prochnow of Markesan; sister-in-law, Dolores Manthey of Franklin, WI; 5 nieces; 3 nephews; 4 great nieces; 11 great nephews; 1 great great nephew; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard (Howie) Griffin; parents, Edward and Elsie Manthey; sister, Marion; 2 brothers, Erwin and Alvin Manthey.

A funeral service for Eleanor Ruth Griffin will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at 11:00 am., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, 226 S. Clinton St., in Princeton. Pastor John Stelter will officiate the service. Eleanor will be laid to rest following the service in the Princeton City Cemetery.
