Thomas Lanier Melton, Sr., died on December 30, 2017. He was born June 15, 1963 in Wilmington, Delaware. He graduated from Lakeland High School in 1982. Tommy had been an architect in Lakeland since 1993 after graduation from the school of Architectural and Engineering Technology at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. He was a member of AIA. Tommy began his career at Lunz and Associates, he later joined Ludwig Spiessel and formed Melton and Associates in 2000.
Tommy enjoyed the beach and working for Volusia County lifeguards in Daytona for six years during high school and college. His other pastimes include fishing, hunting, and golf.
His trademark was his infectious laugh, which made everyone around him smile. A part of his lasting legacy is the numerous luxury homes and commercial projects scattered throughout Florida.
Tommy's biggest joy was spending time with his children whom he adored.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lynda Susan Melton.
Survivors include, son, Thomas Lanier (Lane) Melton, Jr. and daughter, JuliaGene Janet Melton, parents, Dr. James D. Melton, Jr. and Diane Melton, brother, Dr. James D. (Laurie) Melton, III, sister, Laura Melton, two nieces, Cori and Chandler Melton, three nephews, James David Melton, IV Zane and Rippey Collins and uncle, Tim Rippey.
