Patrick J. Baker, 62, of Mendota, IL, formerly of West Chicago, passed away after a brief illness on August 8, 2017. Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Chicago at 10:00 a.m. on October 21st followed by an inurnment service at Calvary Cemetery. Patrick was born on July 16, 1955, one of five sons to John F. Baker Sr. and Gloria (Hansen) Baker. He grew up in West Chicago and attended St. Francis High School. Patrick proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1972-1974 during the Vietnam War as a fireman aboard the USS Hancock CVA-19. This multipurpose attack aircraft carrier was decommissioned shortly after Patrick's tour. Patrick's life revolved around his two daughters and three grandchildren. His daughters were born in Arizona and later moved with him to Geneva, IL. Those left to honor Patrick's memory include his daughters, Erin of Arizona and Shannon of Mendota; grandchildren, Gianni, Draco, and Fianna, all of Mendota; brothers, John, Jr. (Mary) of Bettendorf, IA, Michael (Cathie) of Maynardville, TN, Kevin (Norma) of Warrenville, IL, and Terry of Leeds, AL. He also leaves behind seven nieces and nephews, John III, Maureen, Kristine, Keegan, Nolan, Brian, and Jodie. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice, or simply perform a random act of kindness in Patrick's memory.
