Dean R. Larson, 94, of Albion, NE, passed away Thursday, March 8 2018, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE, with Rev. Mary Frohs officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion, NE, with military rites by American Legion Post 162 and VFW Post 736. Visitation will be 4:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE. Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Dean Robert Larson, son of Albert and Dorthea (Thorberg) Larson, was born October 2, 1923 at the Larson Homestead east of Petersburg, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran North Branch church, attended school at Boone County District 52 and Closter through the 10th grade, graduating from Petersburg High School in 1941. Dean farmed with his father and worked on a crew in the Dakotas during harvest. He entered the U.S. Navy on Jan. 16, 1945 and was honorably discharged on July 4, 1946. He returned to the homestead where he resumed farming.

On March 25, 1951, Dean married Beverly Jean Coulter at the Congregational Church in Albion, NE. They lived on the Larson Family’s Homestead where they farmed and raised their children: Ellen, John, Luther and Betty. Dean and Bev moved off the farm to a home in Albion in 1991.

Dean and Bev were members of Zion Lutheran North Branch Church until it closed in 1968, and they joined Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE. He was a member of, and served on, many organizations including the Petersburg Rural Fire Board, Boone County FSA Board, Boone County Historical Society, Albion Senior Center Board, Zion Lutheran Church Council, Circle R Bible Camp Board, Sons of Norway, and Kiwanis International.

He loved skiing and golfing, along with traveling. He and Bev traveled to Norway twice to visit family, visited 48 states and also Great Britain.

Dean is survived by his wife Bev of Albion; four children: Ellen (Mike) Frey of Albion; John (Mary Lu) Larson of Petersburg; Luther (Deb) Larson of Omaha; Betty (Craig) Polt of Pierce; 16 grandchildren: Christy (Chris) Mollhoff, Kim (Eric) Yungdahl, Craig (Amy) Frey, Justin (Brenda) Frey, Nicole (Rob) Scholl, Amber (Jason) Becker, Kyle (Jessi) Larson, Kelli (Mark) Tisthammer, Trina (Andy) Rea, Chad (Meghan) Larson, Brian (Krista) Larson, Kari (Brandon) Dodd, Kirsten (Jake) Clark, Adam Polt, Matthew (Audrey) Polt, and Jessica Polt; 33 great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret (Cecil ) Jacobson, Caryll Karges, Dorothy Tisthammer, Alice Howard, Glenys (Tom) Quinlan, Laura (Michael) Wray; brother in law Andy (Jan) Coulter; along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Dora Larson; two sisters: Vera Runnels and Myrna Ahrens; six brothers-in-law: David Runnels, Bud Ahrens, Bill Karges, Jim Tisthammer, Max Howard, Dick Coulter; one sister-in-law: Thelma Coulter; and infant grandson: John Alan Larson.
