John A. Bowery, Jr., 85, formerly of Okeechobee, Florida passed away on October 28, 2008.
Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 1, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Father Bill Williams officiating.
Mr. Bowery was a native of West Palm Beach, a graduate of St. Ann's school and attended the University of Florida.
Prior to his retirement and move to Okeechobee he was employed by McLaren Construction Co. and later was with A. G. Holley Hospital in Lantana.
He has held membership in the Knights of Columbus and The American Legion and continued his Fleet Reserve membership.
His Service record included three years of submarine duty during WWII, one year in Vietnam and twenty-five years with the Naval Reserve Construction Battalion RMCB 6-17.
He is survived by two sisters, Frances Bowery, Adrian, MI and Martha Tosti, Bumpass, VA., and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his Wife, Mary Agnes Bowery; sisters, Sister John Loretto Bowery, Loretta Randolph, Louise Smith, Bernice Helena Good and Sarah Carraher.
In lieu of flowers any donation can be made to the Knights of Columbus of Okeechobee. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday, October 31, 2008 with Scripture Service at 7:00 PM at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Georgia.
