Leona M. Powell, age 94, of Janesville, died on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at Skaalen Sunset Home, Stoughton. She was born in Soldiers Grove on Oct. 23, 1917, the daughter of Clarence and Nellie (Sherman) Briggs. She had been a resident of Star Valley most of her life, moving to Boscobel and later Janesville in 1998. Leona married Milford W. Powell in Galena, IL on March 13, 1937, and he preceded her in death on May 14, 1996. She had worked on the farm with her husband, and had been a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Leona loved her garden and flowers, especially violets, and she liked to rake leaves, and loved to quilt in winter. She is survived by her 3 children: Sandra (Rod) Dregne of Janesville, Richard (Cathy) Powell of Poplar Grove, IL and Mary Ellen (Conrad) Edwards of Clare, MI; 9 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sharon Fanning; and 5 brothers. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH with Rev. Bruce Jones officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in North Clayton Cemetery, Crawford County, WI.
