Funeral services for Joe L. Lyons, 80, of Leesville will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at 11 am at the Greater Bethel A.M.E in Leesville. Burial will follow in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Joe L. Lyons, son of the late Abraham Lyons, Sr. and Florence Lyons was born on July 5, 1937 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He departed this life on March 3, 2018.
He received his education in the Charlotte Public School System until he enlisted in the Army. He enlisted in the Army in 1956. While he served his country in The Army in Germany, Joe met and married the love of his life of 50 years, Erika Lyons. While in the Army, Joe worked as a 55 Zulu 50 Ammunition Specialist. He was stationed several places and finally made his home in Leesville, Louisiana. He really enjoyed his time living in Louisiana and made everyone who came to visit him there feel comfortable. He retired from his enlistment in The Army in 1986 after 30 years of service. He received The National Defense Service metal, Vietnam Service Metal, Vietnam Campaign Metal, Overseas Service Bars (3), Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Good Conduct Metal (9), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (5), Meritorious Service Metal.
Joe loved to tell jokes and enjoyed telling stories to anyone who was willing to listen and play along. He was a regular member of the Greater Bethel A.M.E. men's choir, Sons of Allen, Eastern Star, American Legion, VFW, Shriners, and Masons.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Clarice Lyons; his brothers, Abraham, Jr. (Wick), Quincy, and Philip, all from Baltimore, MD; Geraldine Lyons (wife of Charles Lyons); Maxine Lyons (wife of Philip Lyons).
He leaves to mourn: his wife, Erika Lyons; son, Joel Lyons; daughter in law, Jasmine Lyons; brother, Charles Lyons, sister in law, Yvette Lyons (Abraham); nieces, Karen (Clarice), Viola (Charles), Sandra (Charles), Shawntisse (Charles), Felicia (Phillip), Cherylette (Quincy), Andrea (Quincy) and nephews Terence (Clarice), Charles, Jr. (Charles), Antonio (Abraham), Terry (Abraham), Quincy Jr. (Quincy), Sister in law Ilse Chu and Christa Anders; Nieces, Kinglee(Ilse),Kingkoo (Ilse), Sabine (Christa), Tanya (Christa), Shannen (Christa); nephews Kingfoo (Ilse), Andy(Christa) and a host of other family and friends
