Ellen Ruth Maxwell, age 93, of Lexington, GA, passed away March 8th, 2018. She was born in Lexington, GA on July 26, 1924 to the late Wiley Mark and Nora Mardell Tiller. After being widowed at age 20 she moved to Seattle to work at Boeing Aircraft building B29’s. At age 21 she joined the U.S Army. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William Maxwell, first husband George L.J. Spearing, Jr., two sisters, Pearl M. Holmes and Mary Agnus Tiller, and one brother, Guy Richard Tiller. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by one daughter Nora Schmidt (Don) of Athens, Ga and two sons, William M. Maxwell (Elaine) of Pace Fl. and George L.J. Spearing, III (Gail) of Lexington, Ga; four grandchildren, George L.J. Spearing, IV (Paige) of Arnoldsville, Ga, Susan Hollingsworth (Sean) of Frederick, MD, Paul Spearing (Julie) of Chapel Hill, NC and Michelle Moser of Fargo, ND.; and eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens, EAST, Saturday, March 10, 2018 beginning at 10:00 AM. Services will follow in the chapel at 11:00 AM with Rev. Charles Jones officiating.
