Former Baton Rouge Fire Department Chief Robin L. Hurst passed away at the age of 64, on March 6, 2018 at his home in St. Francisville, Louisiana.

Hurst served as chief from 1996 through 2002 after 22 years of rising through the ranks from the position of a firefighter. He was known for emblazoning "We fight what others FEAR" on all trucks purchased during his time as chief.

After he retired from the department in 2002, Hurst worked as a quality control manager at Ferrara Fire.

Hurst's children, Shannon and Jeremy, both work in the fire service for St. George Fire Department.

Hurst was a member of the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association and president of the Parish Fire Chiefs Association during his time as chief. He was the president of the Louisiana Fire Chiefs Association from 2001 to 2002 and a member of the International Association of Firefighters Local 557 for over 44 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Brenda Kaye Hurst; his son, Jeremy Hurst and wife, Gretchen Hurst; his daughter, Shannon DalPozzal and husband, James DalPozzal; his grandchildren, Benjamin Lane, Lauren Lane, Olive Hurst and Pearl Hurst; his mother, Helen Ashford Hurst; his brother, Walter “Sonny” Hurst, III and wife, Simone Hurst, and his nephew and 2 nieces.

He is preceded in death by his father, Walter W. Hurst, Jr.

Visiting hours will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4826 Main St. Zachary, Louisiana on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 11 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 1 pm. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
