Unice Geraldine Thompson, 83, passed away at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh on Monday, March 5, 2018. She had lived most of her life in Meadowview, Va., moving to Abingdon, Va. in 2000. She had spent the last two years of her life living with her son at his home in Raleigh.

Unice enjoyed gardening, especially growing flowers. She loved her family and enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was of the Christian faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Othor Douglas “O.D.” Cook, Sr. and Carrie Bell Farris Cook; her husband, Carl R. “Fox” Thompson; and siblings Vernon Cook, Eleanor LaPenta, Eileen Budziszewski, Martha Kate Territo, Ella Mae Porter, Pauline Martin, and several step-sisters.

Unice is survived by her son Carlton B. Thompson and wife Nasiba Charyyeva of Raleigh, and their two children Emir Serdarov and Selbi Serdarova, both of Raleigh; son Roy Steven Cook and wife Martha H. Cook of Glade Spring, Va., and their three children: Aaron Seth Cook and wife Jennifer Cook of Glade Spring; Lindsey Cook Hogston and husband Jonathan Hogston of Glade Spring, and Eric Steven Cook of Nashville, Tenn.; several great-grandchildren; and siblings O.D. Cook, Jr. and wife Nancy, Irene McNelly, Myrtle Helton, and two step-brothers.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 1:50 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA. A cryptside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Barbara Farmer officiating.
