After graduating from Shead Memorial High School, Class of 1959, Eddie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving with the 397 Civil Engineer Squadron. He returned home and worked locally until starting Moose Island Solid Waste Disposal with his father. Eddie owned and operated his business until 2005, retiring at the age of 65. On August 12, 1989, he married his love, Gloria Arseneau. Together they enjoyed spending time at their cottage on Birney’s Lake in New Brunswick. Eddie enjoyed watching baseball and was an avid Yankees fan.
While in the Air Force, Eddie joined the Moose Lodge while stationed in Kansas. After returning to Eastport, he became active in the Rotary, Eastport Fire Department, Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, Knights of Columbus Assoc. 342 where he was a 4th Degree Knight, and was a Communicant of St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Eastport.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was predeceased by a sister,Estella Miller; two brothers, James and John Mullen; and a brother-in-law Ivan Arseneau. Surviving are his beloved wife of 28 years, Gloria Mullen; sister Mary Doherty of Westbrook; brother Lawrence Mullen of Sanford; brother-in-law Leo Arseneau and his wife Sylvia of St. Stephen, NB; sisters-in-law Thelma Mullen of Machias, Elizabeth Woodward of San Diego, CA, and Annette Hathaway of Anchorage, AK; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Kevin J. Martin, Celebrant, 2 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Washington St., Eastport. Burial with military honors will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
