Johnnie Mae Watkins embarked on this earthly journey fifty-one years ago, on August 23, 1965. She was the eighth of nine children born to the union of Samuel and Izzie Mae Sanders. Johnnie was the baby girl.

Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Sanders, Sr. and Izzie Mae Sanders, and her oldest sister, Lestine Sanders-Banks.

During Johnnie Mae’s lifetime, she accepted a new beginning in life with the Lord, God at an early age. She was baptized in the name of the father, son, and Holy ghost. Johnnie Mae was a Class of 1985 graduate of C.V. White High school, Lakeview, Arkansas.

Johnnie Mae was a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Oneida, Arkansas where she served as choir member, as well as on the hospitality board. She later joined Jackson Chapel Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Hanson Donohoo. She also served as a faithful choir member and choir director. Johnnie Mae loved working on the hospitality board as well as a Sunday school teacher assistant. She later moved to Chicago, Illinois where she joined the Greater Love Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor William Flowers. She served faithfully until God called her home.

Johnnie Mae had a great passion for children. Johnnie Mae started her career in Early Childhood Education because of her love for children. She worked as a teacher’s assistant at Nurturing Developmental Learning Academy until her health failed. Her hobby was cooking. Johnnie’s motto was when you cook, you must cook with “love”.

She leaves to cherish her memory her siblings; Evangelist Azzie Vinson(Melvin) of Harvey, IL., Ozzie Washington of Oneida, AR., James Sanders of Oneida, AR., Samuel Sanders, Jr.(Deloris) of Oneida, AR., Linda Sheppard of El Paso, TX., Diane Sanders of Little Rock, AR., Kenneth Sanders(Katonya) of Oneida, AR., and her lifetime friend, Jerome Lewis of Harvey, IL., and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
