Paula Barber, a long-time resident of the Broomfield area, passed away on Monday, February 26th, just four days after celebrating her 92nd birthday.

She was born on February 22, 1926, in Quitman, TX, and spent most of her childhood and adolescence in east Texas. She was an only child but had an abundance of first cousins to whom she was very close and that were like her siblings. She moved to Denver after graduating from high school, and soon thereafter met Russell Barber. They were married in Englewood, CO on May 9, 1946, and celebrated 52 years of marriage before he passed away in 1999.

When Paula and Russell were first married, they lived in Englewood and operated a chicken processing business known as Barber Brothers, in partnership with Russell’s brothers. Their first child, LuAnn, was born in 1947, and in January of 1949, they moved to Broomfield where they owned and operated Barber’s Poultry for 50+ years. During this time, two more children were born, David in 1951 and Mike in 1957.

When they first moved to Broomfield, Paula and Russell lived in a house next to their business. In 1963, they built a house on the hill on the southwest corner of 120th and Federal, where Paula lived until she moved to the retirement community of Stratford at Flatirons in 2009. She was very proud of being a charter resident there and cutting the ribbon at the opening ceremony. In 2013, she moved to assisted living at Keystone Place at Legacy Ridge, where she lived until her death.

Paula was an integral part of Barber’s Poultry, managing the financial part of the business. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed bowling, golf, family vacation, trips to Texas to visit her cousins, and socializing with friends. At one time, she owned a Corvette, and her grandchildren thought it was pretty cool to get picked up from school by Grandma in her Corvette! Family was very important to Paula; she was always very proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, and she delighted in the addition of each new great-grandchild.

Paula is survived by her daughter, LuAnn Ringenberg (Mike), son, Mike Barber (Cindy), daughter-in-law, Gloria, 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Her son, David, preceded her in death in 2013.
