Funeral services will be Friday, March 9, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church with Rev. Dr. T. R. Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Friday, March 9th from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 P.M. at the church. Memorials to Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church c/o Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final care has been entrusted.
Doris was born October 31, 1933 in St. Joseph, Missouri the daughter of Wade and Anna Thuston. She attended Bartlett Elementary School and graduated from Bartlett High School in St. Joseph.
Doris was employed with Saunders Manufacturing Company, Atchison Senior Village, USD #409 as a teacher’s aide and with the Atchison Housing Authority until her retirement. Following retirement she volunteered as a foster grandparent with Northeast Kansas Community Action Program.
She was a member of Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church. In her spare time she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was an avid sports enthusiast.
Survivors include two sons, Mark May, Atchison, KS; Clarence May, Atchison, KS; two daughters, Debra May, Atchison, KS; Damita May, Atchison, KS; a brother, George Thuston, Phoenix, AZ; a sister, Dorothy Hunter, St. Joseph, MO; ten grandchildren and twenty five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by a son, Michael May; two brothers, Wade Thuston, Jr.; Montell Roberts and a sister, Frances Thuston.
