MAURY - Mr. Bruce Glenn "Muggy" Hamm Jr., 81, died Sunday evening, March 4, 2018, at his residence, following an extended period of declining health. A native of Greene County, he was born June 22, 1936, the son of Bruce G. Hamm, Sr. and Pattie Heath Hamm. Muggy was a veteran of the US Army and also began a career of 38 years with E.I. DuPont as a very young man. A talented craftsman and mechanic, Muggy worked in the maintenance department of DuPont and also restored antique tractors, particularly those manufactured by John Deere. An outdoorsman, he loved fishing and tending his vegetable garden of which he gave much away to neighbors and friends. Muggy was a very active member Brooks Frizzelle Memorial UMC where he served the church in many capacities and formerly volunteered with Greene County Interfaith until his health began to decline. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Ruby Croom Hamm; and mostly recently by a sister, Patsy Hamm Stancil. His surviving family includes his wife of 54 years, Geraldine Davis Hamm; children, Kelly Hamm and wife Michelle, of Pikeville and Sandy Hamm Mooring and husband Lin, of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Savannah M. Lamm and husband Ches, of Maury, and Luke Mooring of Snow Hill; a brother, Steve Hamm and wife Donna, of Snow Hill; a brother-in-law, Jack Stancil of Raleigh; and several nieces. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Pastor Sam Loy officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 – 2:45 p.m. prior to the service and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brooks Frizzelle Memorial UMC, PO Box 225, Maury, NC 28554. Arrangements are by Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service.
