Agnes M. Wheeler, 87, of Brooklyn Center, formerly Redwood Falls, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, in Brooklyn Center.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Redwood Falls with burial at the Redwood Falls Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion, V.F.W. and National Guard, Units of Redwood Falls.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls; and continues one hour before services Wednesday at the church.

She is survived by a son, Paul A. Wheeler and his wife Donna of Maple Grove; daughter, Jo Anne Hunt of Bloomington; grandchildren, Anthony Hunt, Angela Johnson, Brian Hunt, Amy Wheeler Schulz and Aaron Wheeler.
She was preceded in death by her husband in February 1996; son-in-law, Forrest Hunt; brothers Hjalmer, Rudy, Luther, Arthur, Clifford; and sister Elvera Burch.

She was born on Dec. 12, 1912, in rural Delhi, Minnesota to Axel and Josephine (Anderson) Hultquist. She graduated from Belview High School in 1930. She did housekeeping the in the Redwood Falls area. In 1936 entered McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis, but quit due to ill health. In the fall of 1936, she began working as a nurse's aide in Redwood Falls. She attended the nursing program at Eitel Hospital in Minneapolis and graduated as a registered nurse in 1941.

She served in the Army Nurses Corps through Ft. Snelling during World War II, including a year in the Philippines. She was discharged in January 1946. She returned to her job in Redwood Falls.

On Aug. 31, 1946, she married Kenneth Wheeler at Belview. She continued her nursing career, including serving as a school nurse from 1954 until 1956. She started the "Nearly Nurses" program. She and her husband farmed southeast of Delhi and retired in 198. They moved to Redwood Falls in September 1995.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and in 1980 she became a member of the Session of the Presbyterian Church and served for three years. She was a member of American Legion and Auxiliary. In September 1978, she became the first woman in Redwood County to join the V.F.W. She is registered with the new Women in War Memorial at Washington, D.C. She was active in the DFL party.
