Earl Lester Evans, age 85, of Norwalk, died Monday morning, March 5, 2018 at his home.

A visitation will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 9th at O’Leary Funeral Services in Norwalk.

Earl Lester, the son of Roy Lester and Lula Faye (Smith) Evans, was born December 5, 1932, on his parent’s farm near Leon, Iowa. Earl attended a rural country school house through the eighth grade.

Following school he moved to California where he worked on the railroad. He returned to Iowa working in Masonry and Farming. At one time he had a milk route, plumbing business and worked for Boswell Brothers Grain Elevator. In the early 1970’s Earl moved to Des Moines where he continued to work in Masonry building basements. Earl was a mechanic and bus driver for the Norwalk Public Schools for over 20 years. He then worked for Warren County Rural Water as an inspector for several years, and later for Norwalk Schools driving a bus for 10 additional years.

Earl was married to Kathleen Adams and together they had three children, Russell, Marla, and Brenda.
Earl then married Faye Adele Wenthin on Mother’s Day, May 13, 1973, at the Andover Church in Missouri. Together they raised Faye’s two boys, Randy and Russ.

Earl had some show cars, did auctioning, and was a rodeo clown. He enjoyed wood working, remodeling the family home, and deer hunting. Earl and Faye enjoyed going for motorcycle rides throughout the area.

Earl is survived by his wife of over 44 years, Faye of Norwalk; his five children, Russell (Linda) Evans of Urbandale, Marla (Randy) Johnson of Mount Ayr, Brenda (Dennis) Brackin of Lamoni, Randy (Lori) Legler of Winterset, and Russ (Jami) Legler of Urbandale; 14 grandchildren, Terry, Brian, Kelli, Jami, Darrin, Derica, Joe, Ryan, Hailey, Nicole, Timothy, Steven, MaKenzie and John; several great and great-great grandchildren; siblings, Billy Evans and Velda (Gary) Noble; and a host of family and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Lee Evans; and a sister-in-law, Louise Evans.
