Catherine Miriam Atkinson, 91, of Red Wing, died Saturday, March 3, 2018, at her home at Deer Crest. She was born January 30, 1927, in Rochester, to Thomas and Irene (McNallan) Sweeney.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City. Married Kenneth Atkinson on June 5, 1947 at St. Patrick’s Church in West Albany.
They lived in the southern Minnesota area before retiring to Red Wing in 1983. She was a volunteer at the hospital auxiliary and was a member of the Church of St. Joseph. She was a wonderful mother who devoted her life to raising and caring for her family.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; son, Leo (Nancy) Atkinson and John (Sherri) Atkinson; grandchildren, Christopher (Morella) Atkinson, Ryan (Leah) Atkinson, Carrie (Tim) Podesta and Tara (Jesse) Nelson and grandson-in-law, AJ Voigt; great-grandchildren, Emma, Madison, Benjamin, Max, Taylor, Carina, John “Jack”, Nicholas, Cameron, Kyli, Sydnee, Tenley, Ramsey, Jensyn and great-great grandson, Kaysen.
She was preceded in death by daughters, Trish Atkinson and Mary (Jerry) Sterling; granddaughter, Sara Sterling-Voigt; siblings, Marie “Boots” Heise, Thomas, Patrick and Mike Sweeney and Elaine Horn.
Mass of Resurrection service held at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Joseph Zabinski presiding.
Burial at St. Patrick’s Church Cemetery in West Albany (Millville).
