Jimmie Nell Richards, 90, passed away January 15, 2018. She was born to Walter and Mary Jane (Molly) Tubbs in Jones County, near Abilene, Texas on June 23, 1927.

After graduating from Abilene Wylie High School, she was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and on January 25, 1947, married Leo Richards, also a native of the Abilene area, whom she met on a blind date.

Shortly after her marriage, Jimmie moved to Pasadena, Texas, a community she had never visited, where her husband had become employed shortly after his discharge from the United States Navy.  Upon her arrival, she discovered her husband, Leo, had built them a new house in which to begin their marriage.

Several years after her marriage, Jimmie gave birth to her first child, a son, Jimmy (Jim) and a few years thereafter gave birth to her second child, a son, William (Bill) Richards.

As she raised her family, Jimmie served as President of the PTA, Den Mother for the Cub Scout troops in which her sons participated, team mother for multiple sports teams on which her sons played and was always active in her church.  As her children grew-up, she became interested in painting and making crafts of different types and enjoyed her time with her “painting friends”.  She also continued to participate in her church activities and always enjoyed the various social activities of her church and community.  A loving, vibrant and energetic lady, she also enjoyed a good dance.

Jimmie is preceded in death by her husband, Leo and her son, William (Bill). She is survived by her son, Jim, daughter-in-law Joy and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as Nana.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Thursday, January 18, 2018, and the funeral service will be at 2:00pm Friday, January 19, 2018, both held at Niday-Fairmont Funeral Home in Pasadena. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.
