Evelyn was a hair dresser and a sales associate for Belks before retirement. She was also a faithful member of Christ United Baptist Church for many years.
First and foremost, Evelyn loved our Lord and savior. Second, she loved her family with a wonderful kind of mother and grandmother's love. Lastly she loved her flowers, vegetable garden, and farm. Her flowers in bloom were a beautiful site. Her vegetable garden was always plentiful and she shared the bounty of her garden to anyone who wanted to come pick her vegetables. She truly loved her farm animals from the mule and pony she had years ago to the chickens and her prized cows; all of whom had their own names and came when she called them.
Evelyn's loved ones left here for now are her daughter, Melanie Oxentine Stubbs and her husband John of Vale; her grandchildren she loved and was so very proud of, Jonathan Setzer and his fiancé Holly of Toms River, NJ, Alexander Setzer of Toms River River, NJ, Jonathon Stubbs of Vale; a very special cousin, who was more like a brother, John Asherbraner; son, Adam Willis and wife Jennifer of Hickory; grandchildren, Noah Willis of Hickory, Mollie Wilson of Hickory, Spencer Wilson of Iron Station; surrogate daughter, Bobbie Burleson of Hickory and her two faithful companions, Heidi and Max.
The service to celebrate Evelyn's life will be at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Johnny McGuinnis officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Baptist Church in Vale.
