Dr. Norris was as fine a Christian man as ever walked the face of this earth! Fine because he was a friendly, placating preacher? NO! Fine because he knew the Bible and the God Who wrote the Bible, and he unflinchingly stood in the gap in a day of compromising preachers who were letting the world go to Hell, nay, who were leading the world to Hell. A Christian man who was called of God to turn the tide and set the standard for Bible believers who would become known as Fundamentalists. Yes, J. Frank Norris properly earned the title of "Father of Modern Fundamental Christianity."
Dr. Norris built the largest Sunday School in the world in Fort Worth, Texas at the same time he pastored and built the second largest in Detroit, Michigan--at the same time!
Dr. Norris stood against the alcohol, gambling and prostitution in Fort Worth's infamous "Hell's Half Acre", and the liberalism taking over the Southern Baptist Denomination. He ended up pulling the church out to become an independent Baptist church so that he would be free to continue fighting the wickedness without opposition from denominational leaders.
In 1939, with the aid of Dr. Louis Entzminger, he organized the Bible Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, an institution which excelled in the training of young preachers in the building of large Sunday Schools and churches. Many of the graduates of this school have built some of the largest churches in America. A friend of world leaders, compassionate soul-winner, and Bible expositor, Dr. Norris died in Keystone, Florida, on August 20, 1952, and was buried in Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday, August 24, 1952.
He was loved by the Godly folks, and hated by the devil's crowd. Millions of Fundamental Christians around the world owe their understanding of God and His Bible to Dr. J. Frank Norris.
