Ronald "Ron" Leroy Tharp, age 74, went to his eternal home Tuesday, February 27, 2018. Ron was born October 25, 1943 in Vinton, Iowa.

Ron was a tuckpointer for over 50 years. He worked on old buildings all over the country. Anyone who worked alongside him learned of his keen attention to detail in the finishing of brick and stone exteriors. His work ethic built a reputation with those he worked for and worked with. He worked hard, but he enjoyed the work and the people.

He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, of which were numerous. He especially enjoyed the people at Nick's Family Restaurant in Denison. He felt like the owners and workers there were like his family and he loved them dearly. And anyone who visited with Ron will always remember the stories he told.

When one would listen to the "Great R. L." tell his stories, one would believe they were listening to a wild west saloon fight. Others would leave you in stitches. As he'd tell you, according to the people in Vinton, Iowa he was known as nice guy. Ron Tharp.

When family and friends gathered with him, though you may heard some before, there were always a couple of new ones to hear. Ron had a special place in his heart for his family. He loved the visits from nieces, nephews, grandkids and all of his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ron leaves behind his beloved family, wife of 12 years, Darline Tharp, daughter, Dawana Trasak (Rick); sons, Cliff Tharp (Sonya) and Tony Osgood, step children, Jodi Lawson, Lisa Straw (Brad) Crystal Rhodes (Vinny), Bradley Burden (Ashely) Marlana Allen (Chad), and Omega Burden (Katrina,) grandkids, great grandchildren; sisters, Sandy Dvorak, Carla Kerns, Paula Tharp, and Debra Wheeler (Ted Usher); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Tharp, three brothers, Johnnie, Denny and Billy; one sister, Vicki Schuelka; and three brothers-in-law.

Funeral service were held Friday, March 2, 2018 at Fisher Funeral Chapel, in Denison, Iowa.
