Spring Grove, Calvin E. Runk Jr., 90, passed away on March 2, 2018 at Manor Care North Nursing Home in York. He was the loving husband of Emma S. (Swartz) Runk who passed away in 2005.
Calvin was born in Spring Grove and was the son of the late Calvin E. Sr. and Bessie (Emig) Runk.
He worked as a foreman for P.H. Glatfelter in Spring Grove for over 42 years prior to retiring, while employed he never took a sick day. He was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lischey's U.C.C. in Spring Grove, as well as a member of the P. H. Glatfelter Quarter Century Club, the Jefferson Sportsman's Club and the Industrial Management Club. He was an avid hunter. He enjoyed fishing, working on his tractors with his sons and grandson and having breakfast at the Papertown Dairy Bar.
He is survived by sons, Dennis E. Runk of Spring Grove and Gregory L. Runk and wife, Mary-Jo of Hanover; daughter, Diane S. Kimball and husband, Dennis of Cambridge MD; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Ellen Boyer; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, George Runk; and his sisters, Arbell Messersmith and Irene Spangler.
A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Lischey's U.C.C., 5671 Lichen's Church Rd., Spring Grove, with the Rev. Katherine Seiler officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service next to his wife in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Family services are under the direction of Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Spring Grove.
