US Congressman. A native of Massachusetts, he moved to Ohio in 1816 and studied law. He was admitted to the bar in Ohio and began to practice as an attorney in Steubenville. In 1821, he became a Captain with the Ohio Volunteer Militia. He relocated his law practice to Millersburg, Ohio in 1828 and became the Holmes County Recorder. He was elected as a Democrat to represent Ohio's 13th District in the United States House of Representatives and served from 1837 to 1841. He was not a candidate for renomination in 1840.
