JOE EDD HAWKINS went into the presence of the Lord on March 1, 2018. He lived his life serving the Lord, his family, his church, and the community.

Born in 1934 in Waldron, ARK, Joe Edd graduated from Waldron High School. At the University of Arkansas, he played trombone in the Razorback Band and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration, he began a long career in the auto industry and as a developer of commercial property. He owned several automobile dealerships and is a member of the Chevrolet Sales Hall of Fame. He was founder and Chairman of the Board for Grand National Bank of Hot Springs. He was devoted to building up the communities in Central Arkansas, Hot Springs, and Booneville.

Most importantly, Joe Edd Hawkins was a Christian. For 20 years, he actively served at Immanuel Baptist Church. At Central Baptist Church of North Little Rock, he started a food pantry where many were served. He was also very involved in New Beginnings Ministry and Rehabilitation Center in Houston, AR. He was a member and faithfully served at First Baptist Church of Sherwood.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jane Ray Harp; son, David Hawkins of Waldron; daughter, Rayanne (Jack) Bates of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, James Hawkins, Dr. Jonathan Bates, Amy Bates (Michael) Gaddy; and three great-grandchildren, Lucy, Anna, and Ruby Gaddy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lucy Hawkins of Waldron; and sister, Janis Shipley of Fort Smith, ARK.

We praise God that he is now fully alive with the Lord in heaven. Celebration of Life will be at 10AM, Tuesday, March 6th, at First Baptist Church of Sherwood and thereafter, Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Cemetery of North Little Rock.
