Ohio Governor. Born in St. Louisville, Licking County, Ohio, he attended the National Normal University in Lebanon, Ohio. He moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1896 to engage in business pursuits. He founded the Myers Y. Cooper Company and was also successful in several other businesses, including real estate, construction, banking, lumber distribution, and coal mining. A member of the Republican Party, he was defeated as a candidate for Governor in 1926. He resumed his business profession until he was elected as Ohio's 51st Governor in 1928, and served from 1929 to 1931. Cooper was criticized for failing to better assist the people of Ohio during the Great Depression and was not reelected in 1930. He is best remembered for building over 2,000 homes in Cincinnati. He died at his residence in Hyde Park when he was 85 years old.
