Phillip Andrew Sawyer known as Bud to friends and family went to be with his Lord Jesus February 23, 2018. He was born to Clara Alice (Brown) Sawyer and Sneed Sawyer October 26, 1926 on the family farm south of Cyril, Oklahoma. He passed away at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Bud grew up on the family farm south of Cyril and attended school in Cyril through his sophomore year. His mother died when he was 14 and shortly thereafter, his dad sold the family farm and moved to the Lawton area, so Bud lived with his Aunt Sally and continued his schooling in Cyril. When he was in his junior year of high school he and his dad move to a farm in the Noble, Oklahoma area. While attending Noble high school he met the love of his life Novalee Myers, but their romance was interrupted because he was drafted into the US Army before the end of his senior year. He served proudly in Japan during World War II. After his discharge, he and Novalee married on November 17, 1946 in Norman, Oklahoma. They resided in Norman three years where Bud was employed at the Naval Air Base in the transportation department. One of his work duties was as a driver for VIPs who flew in and out of that airport. One person he enjoyed chauffeuring many times was OU football coach Bud Wilkinson.
In 1950 Bud, Novalee and their baby girl Arlinda Kay moved to Cyril where he went to work at the APCO refinery for the next 33 years. Bud's passion was farming, so in 1953 he moved his family which now included a baby boy, Wesley Andrew, to their farm located between Apache and Cyril and they lived there many happy years.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clara and Sneed, his wife, Novalee Sawyer, brothers Bill Sawyer and Orville Sawyer, sisters Catherine Burdick, Orpha Copeland, Wanda Elliott and son Wesley Sawyer.
He is survived by his daughter Arlinda Fields and husband Larry of Oklahoma City, grandsons Scott Sawyer wife Kathy of Lexington, Oklahoma, Joshua Sawyer wife Amber of Stratford, Oklahoma, Mark Fields of Mustang, Oklahoma, and Michael Fields wife Jacqueline of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
