Carol Clark Crawford, 88, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord at The Forum's Health Center February 27, 2018. She was born Feb. 5, 1930, to parents DeMorse Wood Clark and Margaret Roach in Kansas City, MO. Carol spent her youth between Kansas City and Mansfield, LA. She attended Southeast High School in Kansas City and then moved to Natchitoches, LA, where her mother lived, to attend Northwestern Louisiana State University. She graduated from Northwestern, earning her degree in Elementary Education, and later returned to Kansas City where she taught for a short time at the Porter School in Prairie Village, KS. Back in Kansas City she rekindled a friendship with David Crawford. Dave was the love of her life, and they married on March 23, 1952 after a brief courtship. Their first year of married life was in St. Louis, MO, but Leawood, KS, became their home for 60 years. Carol devoted the first 10 years of marriage managing the home, as a loving wife and mother to three children. In 1962, she and her father started a business that they developed within a few years to D.W. Clark and Company. Carol served as Secretary-Treasurer of the company until 1979. She was a charter member of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and a long-time member of Leawood South Country Club, where she enjoyed their home on the golf course and played golf with ladies and couples groups for many years. She and Dave were members of the Kansas City Ford V-8 Club, and they spent many years touring the country in their 1941 Ford Convertible and 1936 Ford Roadster. In 2015, she and Dave moved to an apartment at the Forum in Overland Park due to Carol's declining health. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Alan Fernbaugh. Carol is survived by husband, Dave, and her beloved Yorkie, Tinkerbell, her brother, Mark Fernbaugh, three children, David Wood Crawford (Susie), Carol Sue Jones (Bob), and Nancy Ann Myers (Steve), four grandchildren, Andrew Jones (Jodie), Megan Gepner (Joe), Meridith Hinman (Dallas), and Pamela Mountjoy (Frank), eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved hosting family dinners and celebrations. Family and friends will celebrate Carol's life at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at The McGilley Chapel, 123rd and State Line, KCMO, followed immediately by graveside service at Forest Hill Cemetery. There will be a brief visitation beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those who wish may send a donation to Ascend Hospice.
