He was a giver of the world's best bear hugs, a professional at putting the grandbabies down for naps, a loving husband, and the truest definition of the word family man. John Joseph McMahan was born in North Hollywood on November 2, 1962 to Richard Neil and Barbara Florence McMahan. His siblings Glenn McMahan, Penny Carnegie, Michelle Soloarzano, and Monica Bendix survive him.

He met the love of his life, Brownie McMahan in Citrus Heights at the adolescent age of 16 .It was love at first sight, the ladies man fell for the girl with the "nice ass" and well, the rest is history. He married his beautiful bride in 1983 and just two short years later in 1985 they welcomed their first child Shawna McMahan. Four years later in 1989 they picked a plot of land and built their perfect home from the ground up. That same year Jacklyn McMahan joined the world, then came Jenny McMahan in 1991, and lastly, their first son was born in 1992, John Richard McMahan.

Anyone who met John or Porky or Papa or whatever you knew him as knew he had a heart of gold, it will forever radiate in the eyes of his beautiful family. John and Brownie McMahan spent their lives showing people how true love is lived out, creating their own American dream, their family, the epitome of what you would imagine when you think of love, selflessness, and compassion. It was easy to see why their house was the spot to congregate at when their children were growing up. It was a place filled with love, support, and laughter. No matter how many kids were there, their arms and hearts were always open. The McMahan family lost a beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, and best friend and the world has lost a great man.

"He was the best at being a family man," Brownie said when asked what her favorite memories with him were, "the best father and grandfather, always there for his family." No sincerer words have ever been spoken. John always put in the time to ensure his family had what they needed to be successful, and boy, did he triumph! His children are all blessings to the people that have met them and have the pleasure of having them in their lives.

It seems the saying is true; the good ones always go to soon. John McMahan will forever be cherished and missed.
