Anna Elizabeth (Steward) Bishop, was born August 31, 1916 in Wilberforce, Ohio to Gustavus A. and Winona (Coleman) Steward. At age 87, she departed this life on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at the Heartland Victorian Village Care Center in Columbus, Ohio.

Anna was a graduate of East High School at the age of 14 and the Ohio State University after receiving her Bachelor's degree in Education at the age of 19.

She retired in 1973 after a 35 year teaching career in the Columbus Public Schools. Anna returned to school and received a Master's Degree in Black Studies from The Ohio State University.

A singer and composer, Anna also studied at Capital University in Columbus and at the Julliard School of Music in New York City. On January 15, 1960 she received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from Wilmington College.

Anna was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

Preceded in death by her parents, Gustavus and Winona Steward; her only child, Kirk Bishop and her husband, David Bishop.

Anna leaves to cherish her memory, granddaughter, Monica "Monie" Crome; sisters, Winona Steward, Mary Kelley; nieces and nephews, Anthony, Mark (Angela), Joe (Shelley) and Chris Powell, Gary Steward, Cassandra (James) Rayfield, Winona Powell, George, Wilma Kelley, William Kelley, Wayne Kelley, Mary Elizabeth (Berndt) Bibra; many other relatives, friends and admirers.
